River Edge Elementary School District

Mission Statement:

The River Edge Elementary School District is dedicated to developing citizens who
have mastered the basic skills and complex problem solving techniques; understand and are able to utilize technology; are internally motivated; have a high level of self-esteem;
show respect for humanity; have an appreciation for the arts; take responsibility for their actions; are committed to the continuous pursuit of knowledge. We do this by providing innovative programs, by encouraging parental involvement in the educational process and by appropriate use of community resources.

Special Acknowledgements:

In recent years the district has received a number of Best Practice Awards from the State in the areas of technology, assessment and most recently for our English as a Second Language program. Our comprehensive science program was enhanced with the opening of our award winning “Discovery Room” which is staffed by a full time science teacher. Our students have also won numerous awards for playwriting, poetry, mathematics and the Stock Market Game competition. Cherry Hill School was recognized as a 1998-99 New Jersey Department of Education Blue Ribbon School

Location:

The River Edge Elementary School District is made up of two, kindergarten through sixth grade schools in a Bergen County community of about 11,000 people. The Cherry Hill School is located in the southeastern sector and the Roosevelt School in the northern portion of the Borough. Each school has an enrollment of about 540 students. Our students go on to the River Dell Regional Schools along with the students from the Oradell Elementary School.

A residential bedroom community, a short ten miles from New York City, River Edge is bordered by the Hackensack River on the east, Oradell on the north, Hackensack on the south, and Paramus on the west, and occupies a land mass of about 1.89 square miles

Special Features:

A borough with a long history dating back to 1639, River Edge has the musket, anchor, and plow as symbols in the municipal seal. The musket is a reminder of the important role River Edge played in the Revolutionary Wary, the anchor represents the fact that it was an important commercial stopping place for three-masted schooners during the early colonial times when the Hackensack River was navigable and the plow symbol represents its importance as an agricultural farming community. Most residential growth in River Edge took place following World War II.

River Edge is in close proximity to many major shopping centers and highways, and located only a few minutes from New York City.
