Special Features:
A borough with a long history dating back to 1639, River
Edge has the musket, anchor, and plow as symbols in the municipal seal. The
musket is a reminder of the important role River Edge played in the
Revolutionary Wary, the anchor represents the fact that it was an important
commercial stopping place for three-masted schooners during the early colonial
times when the Hackensack River was navigable and the plow symbol represents its
importance as an agricultural farming community. Most residential growth in
River Edge took place following World War II. |
